Terms of Service · Pingtower

These terms govern your use of Pingtower: the hosted service at pingtower.com, the Pingtower server software when you run it yourself, and the Pingtower iOS app. By creating an account or using any of them, you agree to these terms.

What Pingtower is

Pingtower is log-driven alerting. Your applications POST structured log lines to a Pingtower server; the server deduplicates repeats, evaluates your rules, and maintains alert state with escalation until a person acknowledges. Alerts reach people through the iOS app — including critical alerts that sound through Silent mode — and through integrations you configure, such as webhooks, Slack, and Telegram.

Pingtower runs in two ways, and these terms cover both:

Hosted — your tenants, data, and alerting run on our infrastructure.
Self-hosted — you run the server on your own infrastructure. Even then, push delivery to the iOS app works only through the hosted service: each person pairs an account on your server with a pingtower.com account, and your server relays alert events through us for delivery. Those hosted pieces — accounts, pairing, and the relay — are part of the service and covered by these terms wherever your server runs.

Parts of the product may be in preview. Features may change, be added, or be removed.

Accounts

You need a pingtower.com account to use the iOS app. Keep your credentials — password, session tokens, API keys, ingest tokens — secure; anything done with them counts as done by you.
Note that we do not operate a mail server and currently cannot send password-reset email, so treat your password accordingly.
One account can belong to several tenants. Tenant owners and admins control membership, API keys, invites, and pairings for their tenant, including removing you from it. Leaving or being removed from a tenant is between you and that tenant’s managers, not us.
Accounts are for people. Machines authenticate with API keys and ingest tokens, not shared logins.

Your data and content

You retain all rights to the data you send to Pingtower — log lines, configuration, and everything derived from them. You grant us the license needed to operate the service: to store, process, deduplicate, match, relay, and deliver that data as alerts, and nothing more.

You are responsible for what your applications send. In particular:

Ensure you have the right to send any personal data your logs contain, as covered in the Privacy Policy.
Do not send content that is unlawful to possess or transmit.
Alert content you route to integrations (Slack, Telegram, webhooks) or to phones via push goes where you pointed it; choosing those destinations is on you.

Acceptable use

You must not:

attempt to access another tenant’s data, probe or circumvent authentication, or enumerate credentials, keys, or pairing codes;
use the relay or push delivery to page people who have not consented to be paged, or to deliver content that is not an alert from your own systems;
abuse critical alerts — they exist to wake a responsible human, not for marketing or harassment;
resell the hosted service, or impose loads that are designed to evade rate limits, quotas, or plan restrictions;
interfere with the service, other tenants, or Apple’s push infrastructure.

We may throttle, suspend, or revoke access — including relay keys and pairings — to protect the service or other users.

Self-hosted software

The server software is licensed to you, not sold; where a license accompanies a release, that license governs the software itself. You are the operator of your own server: its data, its uptime, its users, and its compliance are yours. These terms apply to your server only where it touches the hosted service — accounts, pairing, and relay traffic — and we may set technical limits (such as payload size and per-tenant throttles) on that traffic.

We make no promise that self-hosted servers of any version will remain compatible with the hosted relay indefinitely, though we aim to give notice of breaking changes.

The iOS app

Your use of the iOS app is also subject to Apple’s standard App Store terms. Push delivery — critical alerts included — depends on Apple’s push service and on your device settings, neither of which we control.

Alert delivery is best-effort

Pingtower’s entire purpose is to get an alert to a human, and we take that seriously — but delivery depends on your infrastructure, your network, our service, Apple’s push service, your device, and your settings. We do not guarantee that any alert will be delivered, or delivered on time. Do not use Pingtower as the only safeguard for life-critical, safety-critical, or emergency systems.

Fees

The service is currently in a free pre-release phase. Paid plans, seats, and quotas may be introduced; if they are, pricing will be communicated before you are charged anything, and continued use of paid features after that will require a plan.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Pingtower and delete your account at any time; tenant owners may delete their tenants. We may suspend or terminate accounts or tenants that violate these terms, and may suspend or discontinue the service or any part of it. Where practical we will give notice, but we may act immediately to protect the service or other users. Sections on your data, disclaimers, and liability survive termination.

Disclaimer

The service and software are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which, during the free phase, is zero), and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, revenue, or profits — including damages from missed, delayed, or duplicate alerts.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves and will note material changes here with a new “last updated” date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
